Bruins acquire Mark Recchi

I just saw this on TSN's trade tracker, the Bruins have acquired veteran forward Mark Recchi and a 2010 second-round pick from the Tampa Bay Lightning for defenseman Matt Lashoff and forward Martins Karsums. I think this is a good move, although the Bruins are giving up some young talent but Lashoff hasn't done much given all the chances he has been given, and Karsums may turn into a better player if he gets more ice time, which in Tampa Bay he should.

Recchi, a seven-time NHL all-star and two-time Stanley Cup Champion, is a veteran of 1472 NHL regular season games with 535 goals, 891 assists (1426 points) and 962 penalty minutes over 20 seasons. Of his 535 goals, 182 have come on the power play and 81 have been game-winners. He has 15 career 20-goal seasons, seven 30-goal seasons, four 40-goal seasons and one 50-goal season. The 41-year-old Kamloops, BC native has played in 62 games for Tampa Bay this year with 13-32-45 totals.

Bruins make more roster moves

The Bruins made some more roster moves later today. They sent defenseman Matt Lashoff and goalie Kevin Regan to the Providence Bruins (AHL). Then the Bruins recalled goalie Tuukka Rask and forward Martin St. Pierre from the Providence Bruins (AHL) on an emergency basis. The Bruins also placed forward Phil Kessel on injured reserve (mononucleosis). Both Rask and St. Pierre should dress for tomorrow's game vs the Montreal Canadiens.

Bruins youngsters bring it vs Toronto

Tonight the Bruins won a big game against the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-2. With Marc Savard and Andrew Ference already out for this one, Chuck Kobasew got hurt in the first period after taking a puck off one of his feet. But the Bruins youngsters and character players stepped up and helped the Bruins offense score six goals.

David Krejci had a goal and an assist. Matt Lashoff had two assists. Phil Kessel scored the fifth goal of the game which came at a good time. Milan Lucic had two assists, one which was a nice pass to Shawn Thornton where Thornton deked around Vesa Toskala to score his 4th goal of the season. Jeremy Reich scored an empty net goal to end the game, his 2nd of the season. Glen Murray and Marco Sturm added the other two goals in the game for the Bruins. I will try and post the Shawn Thornton goal and the Jeremy Reich goal.

Big game for Bruins tonight

Thursday night the Bruins once again lost to the hated Montreal Canadiens and are still winless this season against the Canadiens. Later today the Bruins will play at Montreal (7pm EST) and try to win to make them closer to the playoffs. The Bruins (8 games remaining with 83 points) are fighting for one of the last two playoff spots with the Philadelphia Flyers (7 games remaining with 84 points), Washington Capitals (6 games remaining with 82 points), and Buffalo Sabres (7 games remaining with 81 points).

I think you may see Alex Auld start against the Canadiens later tonight. That wouldn't surprise me as Tim Thomas has not looked good recently. I haven't read anything yet on who would start though.

On Thursday, the Bruins sent defenseman Matt Lashoff back down to the Providence Bruins (AHL). Lashoff has played in 14 games this season for the Bruins, scoring 1 goal and recording 2 assists.

Injuries and call-ups

With the injuries that the Bruins have, there are now more. Fernandez and Bergeron are out for a long time, maybe even for the season. Adding onto the injury list is Andrew Alberts with post-concussion syndrome (missed last three games), Glen Murray with a hip flexor strain (suffered it in Thursday's game against the Penguins), and Aaron Ward with a broken foot (suffered it during Friday's practice). It was good to see Shawn Thornton come back from his injury and play against the Blues, where he had an ok fight against Blues' enforcer D.J. King.

On Friday, the Bruins recalled defenseman Matt Lashoff from the Providence Bruins (AHL). On Saturday, the Bruins recalled defenseman Matt Hunwick from the Providence Bruins (AHL). Both young defensemen will help the Bruins' D as injuries are hurting them right now.

Rask and Lashoff sent down

The Bruins sent recent callups, goalie Tuukka Rask and defenseman Matt Lashoff back down to the Providence Bruins (AHL). I'm assuming the Bruins will call them back up by Thursday, when the Bruins play against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Bruins are third in their division with a 8-6-2 record with 18 points. Toronto also has 18 points and even though it is still early in the season, the Bruins need to beat teams in their division.
